This is the style of wine once enjoyed by the Russian tsars — a natural dessert wine of rare character. Produced from grapes with naturally high sugar levels, intensified by gentle dehydration on the vine, it is made without any addition of alcohol. After a long maturation in barrels within the cellars of Curral de Atlantis, it reveals extraordinary complexity, concentration, and depth. A true expression of the excellence of Ilha Negra.
The grapes were left on the vine to achieve greater concentration through slight dehydration, though never reaching full raisining. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in used barrels, continuing until the natural limits of the yeast’s tolerance, resulting in a natural alcohol level of 16.5% and a touch of residual sweetness. No fortification was used to halt fermentation. The wine then aged gracefully in barrels for 20 years, developing its signature harmony, richness, and timeless elegance.
